First love almost always comes to an end, like a test, something that prepares you for future relationships. It almost certainly comes to an end, even as its name suggests: after the first, infact, always comes the second, the third, the fourth… first love weans you, it makes you believe that love is something light, made up of kisses, caresses and cuddles. “I want to be with you forever”, “You are my biggest love”, “I love you”, “I want to marry you”, all make you think that the hurt that afflicts other couples will never touch you. You take notice of love songs only when it ends, only then you can pay attention to the lyrics and understand that you, too, have become part of the uniformity of feelings. This state of suspension has always fascinated me, this drama which then must come to terms with reality. Perhaps it is for this reason that I used to save remnants of love, a pendant, pictures, letters received and letters that were never sent in which I “screamed” the reasons of its coming to an end. And then notes jotted down on operations order sheets during my military service, written to stop my thoughts. Then, one day twenty years ago, I put them all together and sealed them inside a yellow envelope and from that moment I understood that love is like life: beautiful, evanescent, difficult, misleading, at times intense, at other times boring, difficult to plan, always and forever worth experiencing, should only be taken with the right philosophy, maybe forcing yourself to make illusions thinking that it will become a reality sooner or later, on the other hand you have to know how to trick yourself in an attempt to make it sense... and then, at most, you start all over again.
This feature is a story that has always repeated itself: the dynamics are the same for everyone. anyone can identify themselves in those letters, in those thoughts. This is the story of a couple who loved each other, who broke up, who took different paths and after twenty years decided to glance quickly at the past to try to remember how they were, a moment so far off from the present… the future, however, lies in her womb and one day that baby will also meet his first love.
